Some of the best memories of a Marmaris holiday are made far from the beach, standing in the back of an open-top 4x4 with dust on your sunglasses and a water pistol in your hand. A jeep safari is the easiest way to see the pine-covered mountains, sleepy villages and cool waterfalls hiding behind the resort, all in a single day. Add the legendary water fights between the jeeps and you get a day that both kids and adults will talk about for the rest of the trip. How the day works

Tours pick you up at your hotel between 9:00 and 9:30 in the morning and drop you back around 4:30-5:00 pm, so plan for a full day of seven to eight hours. Open 4x4 trucks carry 12-16 passengers each and leave town in a convoy; within twenty minutes the asphalt gives way to bumpy forest tracks. During the day you stop for photos, a village break with freshly made gözleme pancakes and tea, lunch (included on most tours) and at least one swimming stop. The full loop covers roughly 100-120 km of mountain roads, but the bone-shaking drive itself is half the fun.

The route: pine forests, a waterfall and the Bayır plane tree

The classic route climbs through the national-park pine forests that surround Marmaris and winds between the mountain villages of the Bozburun peninsula. A favourite stop is the Turgut waterfall, where a short shaded walk leads to an icy natural pool — the perfect plunge on a 35 °C afternoon. Another highlight is the giant plane tree on the square of Bayır village: locals say that walking a full circle around this centuries-old tree adds years to your life, so join the queue and make a wish. Around the square, stalls sell local pine honey, thyme and mountain herbs, and the village ice cream is worth trying. Many tours end the loop with a swim at a quiet bay or at Kızkumu beach with its famous walkable sandbar.

The water fights: nobody stays dry

The trademark of every Marmaris jeep safari is the water war between vehicles. Drivers refill buckets at river crossings and rest stops, water pistols are passed around, and by mid-afternoon the whole convoy is soaked. Dress accordingly: wear your swimsuit under your clothes and pack a towel and a dry change. A waterproof pouch for your phone and wallet is close to essential; most jeeps have a small dry box, but do not count on it. Sandals or old trainers that can get wet, a hat, sunglasses (they double as dust protection) and plenty of sunscreen complete the kit. Leave white clothes at the hotel — red mountain dust stains.

2026 prices, quads and buggies

In the 2026 season a full-day jeep safari from Marmaris costs about €20-30 per person (roughly 1,000-1,500 ₺), including hotel transfer, guide and, on most tours, lunch. Extras usually include the waterfall entrance fee, drinks and the professional photos taken along the route. Practical tips

• Book at least a day ahead; jeeps fill up fast in July and August.
• Front rows are less dusty and less bumpy, back rows are more fun in the water fights — choose before you board.
• The rough roads make the tour unsuitable for pregnant travellers, people with back or neck problems, and babies.
• Bring some cash in ₺ for honey and herbs at the village stalls; cards are not accepted everywhere.
• Take off glasses, watches and jewellery before the water fights — anything dropped in the river is gone.
• Prone to motion sickness? Eat a light breakfast and take a tablet before departure.
